In “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, Oogie Boogie is the main antagonist. He is a burlap sack filled with bugs who inhabits Halloween Town and is its sheriff. He is attracted to anything shiny and enjoys gambling. Oogie Boogie is first seen when Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, stumbles upon his lair while searching for ideas for Christmas. Oogie immediately takes an interest in Jack and offers to show him some of his “toys”, which turn out to be torture devices. Despite Jack's protests, Oogie continues to show off his collection of torture devices, including a guillotine, a rack, and a set of sharpened teeth. When Jack tries to leave, Oogie grabs him and traps him in a spider web. Oogie then reveals his true nature, saying that he only pretended to be interested in Jack so he could torture and kill him. Jack manages to escape and flees back to Halloween Town. Oogie Boogie later turns up at Christmas Town, where he kidnaps Santa Claus and takes him back to Halloween Town.
