Sri Lanka Cricket will not provide a no-objection certificate for their cricketers for the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League T20, scheduled to begin on January 21.
Nine Sri Lankan cricketers were picked by different franchises for the six-team tournament. As it stands, the teams are looking at replacements.
Fortune Barisal announced on Saturday that they have roped in Dwayne Bravo as a replacement for Danushka Gunathilaka while it is understood other franchises are also on the lookout for new names to replace the Sri Lankan players in their roster.
Kusal Mendis was picked by Comilla Victorians whereas Danushka Gunathilaka and Niroshima Dickwella were bought by Fortune Barisal. Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Perera were drafted in by Sylhet Sunrisers. Thisara Perera, Bhanuka Rajapakse, and Seekkuge Prasanna were picked by Khulna Tigers while Dhaka opted for only one Sri Lankan in Isuru Udana.
“As contracted by SLC due to their FTP commitments, they will not release their cricketers during BPL,” BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed to Cricbuzz on Saturday.
Cricbuzz learned that the SLC officials have taken the decision to not issue the NOC since a few players in the recent past have opted to retire without even informing the board, which according to them is very “alarming”.
SLC has recently brought in former captain Mahela Jayawardene as a consultant coach for their national team and he is trying to make sure that their contracted cricketers take part in a domestic tournament, scheduled in the coming days, to assess the condition of his charges.
